Vox Pop Leo

Hi, my name's Leo Chong. I'm from Singapore and I'm currently studying at the University of Adelaide.

I'm currently in my second year of my double degree, economics and finance.

Can you tell me what was the hardest thing for you when you first came and what was difficult about moving to another country to study?

I would say I wasn't very prepared to start living in a different country away from home, away from all the creature comforts and I had quite a few rude shocks like coming to Adelaide for the first time. One of them was actually walking on the tarmac like from the plane I actually had to walk on the tarmac and there was sky, and there was just no tunnel at all, just walking in open air.

I was like, 'What if I get sucked into the plane, the jet engines.' I was just a bit afraid.

So what's been the best thing about your decision to come to Adelaide to study?

Well, basically, I'm just amazed at the new things I learn every day. I've been here for almost two years but I find myself continually being challenged and also making new friends and learning so many different things about Australia and there's just so much more to learn though.

And what do you plan to do next? Have you got a plan for the future?

Well, basically, I'm getting myself involved in a lot of activities like there's no shortage of events that need volunteers and I find it's very engaging. You get to meet lots of new people and of course study is my main priority and I'm just making sure that I actually do well in my subjects so I can actually graduate and get a degree which is my main focus to come here to study.
