The new National Portrait Gallery opened in December and already it's hosted nearly 300,000 visitors. The then Prime Minister John Howard announced the winning design in November, 2005. The architect was Richard Johnson. Three years later, on time and on budget, the gallery opened. What is it about this building and its collection that's drawing in the punters? Director of the gallery, Andrew Sayers, takes us all on a private tour.
The National Photographic Portrait Prize is an annual event intended to promote the very best in contemporary photographic portraiture by both professional and aspiring Australian photographers.
