Gavin began his career as a newspaper journalist before joining the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Western Australia, where he spent several years reporting for television and radio for the ABC's domestic service.

He spent the past four years working as a producer and reporter in news and current affairs with the Australia Network team in Melbourne, before taking up his foreign posting in Jakarta.

His only vice is screaming at the television while watching his favourite Australian Rules football team, the Fremantle Dockers. He is 32.
