NZ spammers face law suit 16/10/2008
14:14:20

Three New Zealand men are facing legal action for their alleged role in one of the world's largest spam operations.

The operation, which is said to have been run out of Australia, New Zealand and the United States, was shut down this week after millions of complaints.

New Zealand's Internal Affairs Department is now suing the men in the civil courts.

If the case is proven, the trio could face fines of up to $US124.

Internal Affairs spokesman, Keith Manch, says the three men made a lot of money out of their global operation.

"I think we've seen around two million US that's been going through accounts related to them," he said.

"We've identified just over two million emails that have come to New Zealand alone."
