Offshore quake off Vanuatu 16/10/2008

A shallow quake with a magnitude of 5.2 on the Richter scale has struck off the west coast of Vanuatu in the early hours of this morning.

The US Geological Survey says the epicentre was just 70 kilometres southwest of Luganville, and 245 kilometres from Port Vila.

There are no reports of damage, and a tsunami alert has not been issued.
