Japanese murder accused dead in apparent suicide 12/10/2008
08:12:35

A Japanese businessman evidently hanged himself in a Los Angeles jail cell where he was awaiting trial for plotting his wife's murder here in 1981.

Kazuyoshi Miura killed himself sometime Friday night just hours after arriving in Los Angeles after being extradited from the Northern Marianas to face criminal charges.

Local coroner's officials confirmed the in-custody death but released no details.

Miura was scheduled to be arraigned on a conspiracy charge on Tuesday and faced a maximum jail sentence of 25 years to life.
