Pakistan appoints new intelligence agency head 01/10/2008

Pakistan has appointed a new man to head its powerful Inter Services Intelligence agency, previously led by a key lieutenant of the former President Pervez Musharraf.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Shujaa Pasha is the former head of military operations and a close aid of Pakistan's relatively reformist military chief Ashfaq Kayani.

The agency has been has been accused by the United States of secretly backing the Taliban.
