PNG opposition warns of parliament boycott

The Papua New Guinea opposition is threatening to boycott the next parliament sitting, in protest over a multi billion dollar gas deal signed by the government.

PNG correspondent, Steve Marshall, reports earlier this week the government indicated that parliament would sit a week earlier in September to pass legislative amendments to enable the liquefied natural gas deal to go ahead.

The opposition described the landmark LNG agreement as secretive and rushed after reports emerged the government's legal department was given just 24 hours to sign off on the deal.

The opposition will boycott the session it believes was rescheduled to correct the government's stupid mistakes.

The multi billion dollar LNG gas project was signed between the government, ExxonMobil, Oilsearch, Santos, AGL and Nippon Oil four months ago.
