Philippines separatist group declares war 20/08/2008
22:31:13

The commander of Muslim forces that attacked and ransacked two towns in the southern Philippines has declared an all-out war against the government.

Commander Bravo taunted the military and says his men are ready to fight to the death.

His band is a breakaway faction of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The band's attacks on Christian towns in the province of Lanao del Norte left 38 dead and dozens of others wounded.

The recent explosion of violence came after the Supreme Court stopped the Arroyo Government from signing an agreement expanding a Muslim autonomous area to be controlled by the MILF.

Commander Bravo says anger over the Court action prompted the attacks on the towns.

Infantry soldiers are pursuing his bands after it withdrew into Mindanao's jungles.
