Obama, Clinton each win Democratic primary 07/05/2008
14:51:16

In the United States, Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have each scored victories in the latest round of nominating contests.

Our North America correspondent, Michael Rowland, reports Senator Barack Obama has scored a decisive win in the North Carolina primary.

As expected, he polled well with North Carolina's large black population but also won more than a third of the state's white voters.

Senator Clinton is poised to notch up a much narrower win in the state of Indiana.

The victory would allow her to stay in the presidential race although she's still well behind Senator Obama.

The Democratic nomination battle now looks likely to continue until the final primaries early next month.
