Asia Pacific health officials finalising dengue fever strategy 06/05/2008
11:46:14

Asia Pacific health officials are meeting in Singapore this week, to finalise a strategy against dengue fever.

Representatives from more than 20 countries are attending the five-day meeting, which began on Monday and is co-hosted by the World Health Organisation and Singapore's National Environment Agency.

The regional adviser for the WHO's Western Pacific region, John Ehrenberg, says the aim is to come up with a final draft plan that will act as a roadmap, to help countries ensure they have the key components in place to fight the mosquito-borne disease.

The strategy includes ways to strengthen surveillance systems, improve clinical management, and upgrade systems in response to outbreaks.
