12:48:56

Japan's core consumer prices rose 0.8 per cent in January amid surging oil prices.

The increase matches December's inflation rate which was the fastest in almost a decade.

Japan's core consumer price index, which excludes volatile prices of perishable food, rose for a fourth consecutive month.

Analyst forecasts had been for slightly faster inflation of 0.9 per cent.
