Pakistan Muslim League - N, the party of two-time former premier Nawaz Sharif says president-elect Asif Ali Zardari must restore parliamentary supremacy and reverse controversial changes made to the constitution under military rule.

The party says Mr Zardari's first test is to facilitate the transfer of presidential powers to the parliament.

Under military rule former president Pervez Musharraf vested Pakistan's powers in the presidency, including the right to dismiss parliament, appoint leaders of the military and make key judicial appointments.

The party is also demanding that Mr Zardari resign as co-chairman of the Pakistan People's Party in the wake of his victory.

It says if the centre of power is the presidency, then there is a dichotomy, and want Mr Zardari to resign his political position immediately.
