West Australian voters have delivered a hung parliament in the State election.

There was a swing of about six per cent against the Australian Labor Party

The Liberal and Labor parties have each won 24 seats, giving the National Party the balance of power in the Legislative Assembly.

The Nationals haven't revealed which party they will support but the Liberal Leader Colin Barnett says he hopes to form a coalition with the minor party.

"The history is that it's always been Liberal-National coalition government," Mr Barnett said.

"I would hope that would happen again, but clearly that depends on the final result and discussions and that will take place over the next couple of days.

"But I think there's no doubt that people who voted Liberal or National are wanting to see a coalition government."
