In Britain, three men have been charged over an alleged plot to assassinate the prime minister, Gordon Brown.

Our correspondent in London, Stephanie Kennedy, reports British police say the three men aged 21, 22 and 23 made threats against the Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his predecessor Tony Blair.

The threats were made on a jihadi website.

The group posting the statement called itself "al-Qaeda in Britain" and demanded the withdrawal of British forces from Iraq and Afghanistan and the release of a number of prisoners in Britain.

If the demands were not met Mr Brown and Mr Blair would be assassinated.

Two weeks ago the men were arrested at Manchester Airport and in Lancashire.

They've now been charged with terror offences.
