Australia's Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan says he has no doubt that the sharp increase in tax on pre-mixed alcoholic drinks will cut rates of teenage binge drinking. But the Federal Opposition says the 70 percent tax increase will just force teenagers onto drinks with a higher alcohol content, or drugs. The move will earn the government an extra three billion dollars in revenue, and the Opposition is planning to block it in the Senate. Produced by Radio Australia and Australia Network |
