An Australian soldier remains in a serious but stable condition after he was wounded in a roadside bomb attack in southern Iraq.

The attack happened during a patrol by the Overwatch Battle Group in Dhi Qar Province.

Members of the patrol carried out first aid to treat shrapnel wounds to the soldier's upper body.

The soldier, from Brisbane, was then flown to a hospital in Talil where he is receiving treatment.
