Our correspondent in China Stephen McDonell spent last night at the earthquake's epicentre, Ying Xiu. He says this town will have to be torn down and rebuilt "We walked over the mountains and arrived at Ying Xiu to see a whole town flattened. Here at the earthquake's epicentre, not one building can be saved. Now most people here are from the Chinese army. There's no search for survivors. They're preparing to clear the rubble which was once a town. The small number of locals still living here are in tents. They're burning the clothes of their dead loved ones. They're mostly children's clothes." Produced by Radio Australia and Australia Network |
