Australia
In Depth

Australia's Federal Opposition says it may be appropriate to force regime change in Burma if the country's humanitarian crisis escalates.

Opposition frontbencher Tony Abbott says there could be a humanitarian obligation to take stronger action.

"If the circumstances are extreme enough, regime change is appropriate. Forcible intervention is appropriate but people have got to understand just what a dire step this is that they are thinking about."
