East Timor's president has thanked world leaders for their support after he was seriously wounded in a gun battle last month.
Jose Ramos-Horta has spoken publicly for the first time since he was gunned down in Dili. He recorded a two minute message in three languages at the Darwin Private Hospital. While he looked pale, the president appeared confident and determined to show his well on his way to recovery. He refrained from political comment, instead focusing on those that have helped him. World leaders, common people who all this time have shown their sympathy their support and their prayers, I thank you all and god bless you," he said. Dr Ramos-Horta is expected to remain in hospital for another ten days. Produced by Radio Australia and Australia Network |
