Lester meets a cow for the first time in his life when he goes to stay with a dairy farming family who are showing their animals at a Royal Agricultural Show.
The Pacitti family enter their prize milking cows every year, but its hard work - with early mornings, regular milkings, sweeping and cleaning up, and the accommodation leaves a bit to be desired.
Lester learns to handle cows, feed and water them. He helps out on judging day, enters the Grand Parade, leading his adopted cow, Toppy, and evens wins a prize for milking. Lester also learns a bit about the attitudes and way of life of country Australians.
