The party is over. Having barely survived a complete collapse of the financial system, the global economy is tottering on the brink- we've reached the limits of what our desires demand of the planet and what it can deliver. We're reaching Peak Everything and the question is whether we can manage the change or will we let the changes manage us. Economist and author David McWilliams consults some of the most innovative and exciting developments around the globe as we embark on a quest for re-building a sustainable economy and a sustainable planet.

This week on Dateline - South Africa: White Revenge - The murder of South African white supremacist Eugene Terreblanche in April 2010, has reignited divisions between white and black in a reminder of the country’s bitter struggle over apartheid. Zoé de Bussierre reports from Terreblanche's home town of Ventersdorp in the aftermath of the killing, as two black men appear in court charged with his murder. She sees first-hand the hatred between the two communities, which frequently threatens to turn violent. Then, Scotland: Time & Tide - The main threat to archaeological sites might seem to be modern development, but in the Orkney Islands off the north coast of Scotland, it’s nature that’s threatening to destroy thousands of years of history. Dateline journalist Nick Lazaredes travels round Orkney and asks what can realistically be done to save them for future generations. Finally, Vanuatu: Waiting for Philip - Prince Philip was born in Greece and went on to become Queen Elizabeth’s husband, but to the people of Tanna in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu, he is revered as the human form of an ancestral spirit from the island, who, according to a prophecy, emerged from a volcano and travelled overseas to marry a queen. Dateline journalist Amos Roberts visits Tanna as villagers prepare for the Prince’s 89th birthday. They believe it’s the date of his ‘second coming’ and a big party is being organised in his honour. This is followed by a special interview by George Negus with Amos Roberts about "Waiting for Philip" story.

This two-part series examines how a simple instrument, the telescope, has fundamentally changed our understanding of our place in the universe. What began as a curiosity two spectacle lenses held a foot apart ultimately revolutionized human thought across science, philosophy, and religion. "Hunting the Edge of Space" takes viewers on a global adventure of discovery, dramatizing the innovations in technology and the achievements in science that have marked the rich history of the telescope. This tale of human ingenuity involves some of the most colorful figures of the scientific world Galileo, Kepler, Newton, William Herschel, George Hale, and Edwin Hubble leading up to today's colossal telescopes, housed in space-age cathedrals or orbiting high above the Earth. Now, at the center of an international space race, a new generation of ever-larger telescopes is poised to reveal answers to longstanding questions about our universe and, in turn, to raise new questions.
