Amid the continuing economic crisis, UK oil-executive, Brian Jardine, is sent by Albion Energy's London Board to head up an ailing Australian mining subsidiary (CCR), with strict orders to save it or dump it. Leaving behind his privately-disenchanted UK wife, Tess, and university-student daughter, Claire, Brian enlists an Australian geologist, Megan Kerr, to form a crisis-management team; a team that includes Max Mees, a cynical, veteran mining-engineer who bitterly resents having to serve under Megan; Shane Bevic, an ambitious former blast crewman and union delegate; and Caz Cohen, a feisty, former environmental-activist, who reluctantly opts - like Shane - to join the team, to fight the 'enemy' from within rather than without. As the team starts to tackle the commercial, industrial and environmental issues crippling CCR - the legacy of both an inept former management and the ongoing financial crisis - they also embark upon more personal journeys, sometimes of their own making and sometimes driven by circumstances beyond their control.
