Three young people set off on a journey of self-discovery that will challenge them to find their own road in life. In an innovative collaboration with the originators of Roadtrip Nation in California, the Australian production team called for applications and from hundreds of applicants, selected three young Australians at a crossroads in their lives. The brief: to track down and interview inspiring individuals who are passionate about what they do, and see their career less as a job and more as a way of life. Desperate to make a difference Brynn, 25, is a corporate lawyer in a top city firm who feels trapped. Bruce, 20, is a recent migrant from Zimbabwe who loves performing arts but feels a huge obligation to support his family financially. Kay, 20, is in a similar situation: struggling with business studies but under pressure from her Chinese-Timorese migrant family to succeed. Together these three hit the road in a bright green campervan, to interview their chosen mentors. Over five weeks, the roadtrippers travel thousands of kilometers from tropical Stradbroke Island down the east coast to Melbourne, Adelaide and finally through the desert to the spiritual centre of the nation, Uluru. Sometimes the advice they get is not what they want to hear. Human Rights Lawyer Julian Burnside tells Brynn that she must do ten years in corporate law before she can be useful in human rights law. The world's greatest female surfer Layne Beachley reveals just how much she sacrificed in order to reach her goals. And Federal MP Tanya Plibersek says there is no one right answer: there are probably six. On the other hand, there is plenty of humour and down-to-earth honesty. Dr Karl Kruszelnicki offers a pearl of wisdom: never have sex with anybody who has more problems than you do. By the end of the five-week journey, the three travellers have each come to a deeper understanding about themselves and their path in life and they've been inspired by the people they've met.
